Received for Review: Cartooner RPG
Giovanni Micolucci saw my My RPG Sessions Do Not Generate Fiction post and send me a copy of the Cartooner RPG as an example of a game that does better at creating fiction. From first glance it looks like a storygame version of Toon. I’m not usually a big fan of storygames, but I’m willing to give this one a try: it looks simple, it’s about cartoons, and it is designed to be played in under an hour. I’ll read through the rules this week and run a quick game of it next Sunday before my regular Lords & Wizards session. Then I’ll post a review.
From the description of the Cartooner RPG on RPGNow:
We took equal care also in the manual and the text, making Cartooner suitable for all fans of the genre Looney Tunes and Hanna-Barbara cartoons are popular for. But the rules are flexible enough to stage your own cartoon stories born from the fruits of your very own imagination.
In this ambitious project, we have focused heavily on simplicity, allowing the player to focus more on creating an environment of play suitable for the style of Cartoons! The result is a streamlined manual, full of funny quotes, and the only things that are missing to play are: 4 to 6 players, 2 six-sided dice, a carrot and 40 minutes.
