Hall of the Fire Giant King concludes the three-part “Against the Giants” series and, not surprisingly, it offers the greatest challenges and toughest opponents yet. The module’s 16 pages detail a three-level dungeon: two floors are the worked stone abode of the fire giants and the bottom, natural cavern level serves as a no-man’s land between the giants and the various denizens of the depths who have traveled up from below (primarily the drow elves). Although the suggested PC level range is roughly the same as for G1 and G2, this is a stretch and parties must be ready to bring their “A” game to the table (particularly on the combat side) if they are to survive this adventure–it’s a real grinder and careless, inexperienced, or ill-organized groups will surely meet their doom. The conclusion of the module leads directly into D1, Descent into the Depths of the Earth, so DMs not wishing to offer the option of continuing the series should make arrangements beforehand to close off the tunnel that leads down from the Hall. (I should also note that G3 appears complete and unaltered in the G1-3 compilation.)
